Several reports have surfaced following The Royal Rumble pay-per-view two weeks ago mentioning multiple names who were either pulled from the match or slated as alternate entrants should a Superstar become unavailable.
According to Fightful Select (subscription required) both Buddy Murphy and Cedric Alexander were reserved as alternates for the men’s royal rumble match, however were not used. It was also noted that Montez Ford was in the ThunderDome for the event, however wasn’t an alternate. Andrade, who hasn’t had a match since October, wasn’t slated as an alternate for the Royal Rumble.
Prior to this report, Fightful also mentioned that despite not eventually being in the match, Keith Lee, Jey Uso and Robert Roode were scheduled to compete as of several weeks ago. All three men have now returned to television.
As for the women’s Royal Rumble match, Toni Storm wasn’t scheduled to compete however was used as a replacement after Mia Yim, now known as Reckoning couldn’t make the show due to testing positive for COVID-19. WWE also brought Kacy Catanzaro to the venue to be used as an alternate if another Superstar became unavailable.
