A major departure from WWE happened last month, not related to the recent cutbacks in the company.

SmackDown lead writer Chris DeJoseph was released from the company on May 29, with no specific details known at the time.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, an incident took place during a Zoom call between DeJoseph and other WWE executives.

The report indicates Chris DeJoseph was on a Zoom conference call with Kevin Moore, the Senior VP of E-Commerce and Venue Merchandise, and Stan Stansky, the Senior VP of Creative Services.

DeJoseph reportedly said things he shouldn’t have, and once Vince McMahon was made aware, he was fired from the company.

He shared the following comments since his release.

Totally dodged a bullet. #Raw #SmackDownOnFox

Life is better than no life

— Chris DeJoseph (@chrisdejoseph) June 13, 2020

After ten years away wasn’t really into giving my life to the unpredictable whims of one person. But I believe in @bruceprichard and his vision.

Chris DeJoseph received a promotion that same month, and was working in as a lead writer and producer for the SmackDown brand.

He returned to WWE in December 2019, after working one month for MLW as a Co-Executive Producer.

DeJoseph worked for WWE from 2004 through 2010, landing a role as a Senior Writer in the company.
