CM Punk has addressed rumors that he could be headed to AEW.

CM Punk was recently a guest on ‘Sunday Night’s Main Event’, where he discussed contract offers with AEW, Darby Allin’s ‘best in the world’ reference and if he has any plans for August 20th.

Back when AEW began, reports circulated revealing that CM Punk had met with AEW CEO Tony Khan, where he turned down a ‘massive deal’. Punk instead signed with FOX, where he appeared as a regular guest on WWE Backstage.

During the interview, Punk was asked about the meetings he had with Tony Khan, and why he refused the offers.

“Yeah I talked to Tony, you know my perspective on this and I said this to Tony, to his face, was that I am a guy who has constantly heard, ‘hey I got a money guy, hey I got TV’. I’ve heard that at least once or twice a year for fifteen-twenty years in my wrestling career. Especially after ECW folded, everybody was going to use the ECW guys. There’s a dude named John Collins who did time in prison for bouncing checks. It always seems like somebody is gonna, ‘oh we’re gonna start up and we’re gonna compete with Vince’ and I always thought that came from a bad spot. Because if you wanted to start a wrestling company I think you should always just focus on yourself. So I’m more or less took a wait and see approach and I’m not interested in pro wrestling in that respect. We’re here, we’re talking about [Starz] Heelz. It could be bad luck in my opinion because this next role I’ve got is set in the world of professional wrestling,” Punk stated.

Punk was then asked about the ‘best in the world’ comments from Darby Allin on a recent episode of Dynamite, which was among the many subtle, and not so subtle teasers by AEW.

“Listen best in the world, that could be anybody. That’s Bryan right? That’s my assumption. I hear best in the world I hear Bryan. I think Darby Allin’s great. I think everybody in the wrestling world needs to never do a dive ever again. Because you can’t do it better than Darby,” Punk said.

Last month, reports emerged that Punk had signed with AEW, and would be making his debut at some point during their shows in Chicago. With the second ever episode of Rampage in Chicago on August 20 being given the name ‘The First Dance’, many have come to the assumption that Punk will make his debut there.

When asked about if he may be going to the United Center on August 20, Punk replied with, “when was that? Let me look at my calendar [looks at calendar]. I think I actually might be doing a screening. This isn’t confirmed yet so I probably shouldn’t blast this out everywhere but we’re talking about doing a screening of episode three of Heels at an AMC in Chicago, and that’s one of the dates that has been proposed.”

A recent update has been provided on Punk’s training ahead of his rumoured in-ring return. You can read more on this here.
