Cody Rhodes is not holding any grudges towards WWE for preventing him from trademarking his name.
In a statement on Twitter, Rhodes says WWE could make “big money” off the brand, based on data both sides have access to.
“It’s not as sultry/scandalous as reported. It’s just business. They’ve seen the same data we have, and they know they can make big money off the brand(even though it’s not in their house). Trying to license me is flattering, but it doesn’t stop this train from moving. No grudge.”
WWE’s rights to the trademark expired last October. The company had 6 months to re-file, but missed the deadline.
Cody filed the trademark for himself once that 6 month mark ended. WWE claimed they missed the deadline due to COVID-19, and is now attempting reclaim ownership of the name. This caused the Cody’s filing to be put on hold due to possible confusion.
Cody has 6 months to prove he is the rightful owner of the name.
