Last night on NXT, Drake Maverick was handed a new WWE contract after being released in mid April due to the coronavirus pandemic. Whilst now being an NXT superstar, it wasn’t always like that..
Drake Maverick became the first General Manager of 205 Live in January 2018, two years after the show had started. The brand hasn’t broken through in WWE, with one of the reasons being that it’s on the network instead of cable TV. This is a big disappointment as the cruiserweights have some of the best wrestling in the world.
In a recent tweet, Maverick looked back on his time as General Manager, sharing images of himself with his trousers down backstage. The funny images were accompanied with the caption
“I always enjoyed being the @WWE205Live GM & made sure to take the job seriously at all times.’ ‘Production & camera people would sweat EVERY week in case their arm got tired”

Shortly after Drake Maverick was released, William Regal was revealed to be his replacement, now managing 205Live as well as NXT. Only time will tell to see if Maverick goes back to his manager role or stays as an in ring talent.
