The future of independent wrestling promotion EVOLVE may be in jeopardy following financial issues amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, EVOLVE canceling events during Wrestlemania week was “catastrophic” for the promotion.
There has been reports of the promotion selling their tape library, and “pretty much everything to WWE”, but neither party would confirm or deny the story.
There has been a lot of talk in recent weeks regarding the future of Evolve and WWE. It’s not a secret Evolve had major financial issues and the canceling of WrestleMania week was catastrophic to them. They’ve been quiet, having not said anything. There were reports of them selling their tape library and pretty much everything to WWE but when asked, neither Evolve nor WWE would confirm or deny the story
EVOLVE founder Gabe Sapolsky currently serves as a consultant for WWE, and has been instrumental on providing NXT talent over the years.
WWE has also sent many stars to EVOLVE over the last few years, allowing the performers to gain experience in front of different crowds.
Last June, WWE broadcasted the EVOLVE’s 10th Anniversary special with appearances from Adam Cole, Johnny Gargano, Paul Heyman, and Matt Riddle.
