Mark Hildreth, better known as WCW star Van Hammer was arrested Sunday after striking a 5-year old boy with his car.
The incident occured at approximately 3 p.m on Sunday, January 26 in Boynton Beach, FL.
Hildreth was allegedly speeding 58 mph in a 35 mph zone. The police report indicates he was drunk at the time of the collision. The child was thrown atop the car’s hood according to the police report.
Hildreth was charged with leaving the scene of an injury crash and DUI with injuries.
According to an eyewitness, Hildreth left the scene after striking the child.
“The father picked up the son off the road,” Hugh Tilghman told The Palm Beach Post. “The kid was crying. The dad was crying. The guy was out of the car.”
Tilghman then stated, “I’m looking at the guy and he’s getting back in the car. We’re yelling at him, ‘Don’t you leave. Don’t you leave!’”
Hildreth stood in front of a judge Monday morning at the Palm Beach County Jail. Bail was set for $125,000, with an option for house arrest.
He wrestled under the name Van Hammer in WCW from 1991 – 2000. He had a tryout in WWE in 1993, but was not signed to a deal.
