Jake Paul VS Tyron Woodley fight is coming. How did he change his YouTuber career to a boxing one?
Fighting among non-professionals is a worldwide trend. Jake and Logan Paul are popular YouTubers who try themselves in boxing. Previously, they fought other bloggers, rappers and basketball players, but on April 18, Jake met with a pro: former UFC fighter Ben Askren (19-2). Fans didn’t believe that the ex-champion of Bellator and One FC would lose to YouTuber, but it happened: the blogger knocked Askren out in the first round.
How Jake Paul got introduced to boxing
Jake Paul, 24, began filming the first vines (6-second videos) in 2013 and slowly became one of the top bloggers on YouTube. He makes millions of dollars a year, invests in the business, but admits: his biggest passion is boxing.
He has been training for more than four years, but before meeting Askren he previously had only two fights. In the first one, he defeated the blogger under the nickname AnEsonGib, and in the second, he clashed with former basketball player Nate Robinson (Jake also won). The fights caused a stir, and Mike Tyson thanked Paul for popularizing boxing (the legend fought Roy Jones in the same tournament as Jake).
The Askren fight
For starters, Jake wanted to find a fighter with a big name but weak boxing technique from MMA. His victim was retired Ben Askren: he is 36, he fought in the UFC and has a good record (19-2). But most importantly: Ben is a terrible boxer. He’s focused on wrestling and his bad punch was mocked by many. Even Ben himself was sarcastic of these skills.
True that Paul chose a weak boxing fighter who retired a year and a half ago and underwent hip surgery earlier this year, but that’s not the case. Before the fight, Paul added fuel to the fire: he said that Askren had fewer defeats than Conor, and MMA was not a real sport.
And although Askren’s boxing has long turned into a meme, many did not believe that the blogger would beat the fighter. It didn’t help that the legendary boxing coach Freddie Roach, who called Jake “a dummy from YouTube”, was preparing Askren for the fight. A few weeks weren’t enough to teach Askren how to box.
Before the fight, Jake promised to knock Askren out in six minutes. It turned out that Paul needed even less time: in the second minute, Askren was knocked out. After the victory, the blogger was overwhelmed with emotions: he could not believe that he had defeated a professional fighter. Kneeling, he cried and celebrated the victory as if he had already become a world champion.
The future for Jake
Now Jake wants to participate in a few more fights to achieve the main goal: the fight with McGregor. The one with Tyron Woodley, which will take place this august, might become the hardest one for the YouTuber/boxer.
The Paul/Woodley clash has the potential to become one of the most talked-about fights of the year, and of course, betting websites have wide lines and most interesting odds for this event. For example, 12bet, the review of which is available at Bookmaker Ratings https://bookmaker-ratings.com/review/12bet-review/, couldn’t avoid this clash.
Although Woodley is on the streak of defeats in UFC and Dana White suggested he should retire, the athlete is hesitant to continue the career. He also has no boxing career to speak of but developed a striking technique while performing in fighting leagues. Tyron is also extremely motivated to win the encounter with Paul because he hopes this fight might help re-launch his career.
