Former WWE Superstar Jeet Rama has criticised WWE on how they present Indians on television.
Jeet Rama was among the dozens of Superstars released by WWE earlier this year. During his time with the company, he primarily worked on 205 Live, however faced AJ Styles at Superstar Spectacle earlier this year in January.
Rama has now sat down to speak with SportsKeeda Wrestling, where he discussed his time with the company and how he isn’t happy with a specific aspect of WWE.
While he understood that WWE is a business that needs to make decision, he wasn’t pleased with the way WWE portrays their Indian Superstars as heels, causing the crowd to boo them.
“WWE is a business at the end of the day. I can’t tell them to make business decisions around me. They are doing what they think is right from a business perspective. But why is it that you take any Indian WWE wrestler…why are they always made heels? Why are we only presented as villains? Why do they have to behave in such a manner that the audience there insults them and boos them?” expressed Rama.
Rama continued by explaining how it didn’t sit well with him that ge was earning money while misrepresenting his country.
“My soul couldn’t come to peace with the fact that I was making money by misrepresenting my country. When I wrestled at a WWE Live Event a few years ago in Delhi, I saw that the Indian audience was booing Jinder Mahal. Isn’t there something seriously wrong if your home audience isn’t cheering for Jinder Mahal? At some level we as Indians have to compromise when we go to WWE. This is the weakness I want to eliminated”
Rama went on to discuss how he wants to create a platform for aspiring Indian wrestlers to develop and establish their character before moving to a major promotion such as AEW or WWE.
