AEW will be presenting their most ‘extreme’ match to date at their Revolution pay-per-view next month.

This will be the first major U.S promotion to present this type of match, which was popularized in Japan in the 90s from promotions such as Fronter Marial Arts. The first-ever match of this kind was Atsushi Onita vs Tarzan Goto in 1990.
Traditionally, the ropes are replaced with barbed wire, and barbed wire boards with ‘C4 explosives” are added and arranged inside the ring. The most famous match with this gimmick was Terry Funk vs Cactus Jack, at the IWA King Of The Deathmatch Tournament finals ‘Kawasaki Dream’ in 1995.
