Matt Hardy In Negotiations With WWE For New Contract
Matt Hardy returned to WWE television this past Monday, in a less than stellar fashion.
WWE and Matt Hardy are currently in the midst of contract negotiations according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider. Hardy’s current WWE deal will expire in February 2020, and he feels like if he re-signs with the company, it will be his final deal in his career.
The main sticking point in negotiations is the way WWE is utilizing his character. If WWE decides to continue to use him the way they are, he could be leaving the promotion to pursue other options. The report indicates, money isn’t an issue during these negotiations, but how his future will be in the company character wise.
Hardy has been self-releasing videos on his Youtube channel, with the most recent series being “Free The DELETE“. Hardy would like to return to the Broken Matt Hardy character, and has been vocal on social media.
Thanks for the kind words. I appreciated the love Chicago showed me on #RAW. I thank @WWE for taking very good of me as an independently contracted employee. I know #BROKEN Matt is still in demand, awesome & money. I insist on making it happen AGEEN. https://t.co/1QNM52xqo7 https://t.co/2ib5tcls08

“Sources indicate that while Hardy has been thankful to have been able to return to WWE and have the run he and his brother Jeff have enjoyed since Wrestlemania 33, there is no question that WWE didn’t capitalize on the “Broken” Matt Hardy persona as much as they could have. The “Woken” version didn’t click and wasn’t pushed as hard as Hardy’s previous incarnations of the character in Impact Wrestling. The Hardy Halloween special, which received unanimous positive reviews, was never followed up on the WWE Network.” – PWInsider
WWE made the decision to roll over Matt and Jeff Hardy’s contract earlier this year. The company invoked a clause in their current deal to roll it over an additional year. However, Jeff Hardy’s contract has been extended further due to injury, and he has yet to make his return.
If Matt leaves WWE, he will be leaving alone, without his brother Jeff.
