WWE Hall Of Famer “Mean” Gene Okerlund Passes Away

WWE Hall Of Famer “Mean” Gene Okerlund has passed away at the age of 76. The WWE confirmed the news in a brief statement this morning.

WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Gene Okerlund, the most recognizable interviewer in sports-entertainment history, has passed away at age 76.

Known as one of the most recognizable pro-wrestling announcers, Mene Gene started in the wrestling business working for AWA from 1970 – 1983. Okerlund joined the WWE in 1984, and worked for the company until 1993.

Gene Okerlund worked for World Championship Wrestling from 1993 – 2001, and returned the WWE shortly after WCW was purchased by Vince McMahon.

Okerland was inducted in the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2006, The New England Wrestling Hall Of Fame in 2015, and The Pro Wrestling Hall Of Fame in 2016.

Okerlund was signed to a WWE Legends deal, and made his last television appearance last January at the RAW 25th Anniversary.

At this time, no news has been released on the cause of death.
