Brodie Lee Hospitalized In Jacksonville Prior to Passing
New details have emerged regarding the tragic passing of Jonathan Huber, better known as Brodie Lee/Luke Harper.
Dave Meltzer spoke in-depth about Lee’s passing during the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, revealing he was only supposed to be off television for a few weeks following his Dog Collar Match with Cody Rhodes,
“So he did the match with Cody, and the idea was for him to be off for a couple weeks, with the idea he took such a brutal beating, and then when he was off, that’s when he got sick.”
Sometime after the match, Brodie Lee was working out on his Pelaton bicycle, but had to stop due to not feeling well. He got extremely tired, and couldn’t figure out a reason why. Two weeks after that incident things took a bad turn.
I guess it would have been after the match, he had done a workout on his Peloton bicycle, and he got really tired, and he couldn’t figure out why, he couldn’t finish his workout. I guess it was 2 weeks after that it got bad, and I don’t know all the details.
Details behind his death have yet to be revealed, but Brodie’s wife did let everyone in company know about his illness. She did not want people outside the company to know, which is why it wasn’t publicized.
The company knew, I guess Jon’s wife pretty much told everyone in the company, but they didn’t want it out, so it wasn’t out.
Brodie had issues with his lungs working, and had been hospitalized since the end of October. His situation turned bad, and those who needed to know were aware of how bad it was.
What the situation was with his lungs not working, essentially, and he had been hospitalized since the end of October. So he did the match with Cody, and the idea was for him to be off for a couple weeks, with the idea he took such a brutal beating, and then when he was off, that’s when he got sick.
Essentially his lungs stopped working. It got really grave and they were aware of how grave it was, at least to the end. He was at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.
On 12/17, AEW filmed bonus footage during Dynamite television tapings with Brodie Lee’s son. During the segment, Brodie Lee Jr. “defeated” Kenny Omega to win the AEW Championship.
Bryan Alvarez inquired if Brodie Lee was present during the tapings to witness his son’s big moment, but did not receive an answer from those in AEW. It’s unknown if that footage will be eventually released.

Kenny joins the Bucks in the ring and they offer a spot in The Elite to Brodie Lee Jr. (Brodie’s 8 year old son). Dark Order comes out and starts a brawl that leads to Kenny and Brodie Jr. having a championship match. Brodie Jr. jumps on Kenny’s back, taps him out with a rear naked choke, and is announced by Justin Roberts as the new AEW World Champion. Fun stuff that I’m guessing was a Christmas present for Brodie’s kid. Could have been shot for some kind of fever dream segment for BTE or Dark Order’s youtube stuff, but was probably just a fun thing for the kid.
