Lucha star Príncipe Aéreo passed away Saturday night following an incident that occurred during a tag team match at a Mexa Wrestling event in Mexico City.
According to MasLucha, Aéreo was pronounced dead in hospital following an apparent heart attack, which occurred while working a match inside San Juan Pantitlán Arena.
When looking at video footage of the match, Aéreo took two chops to the chest, and one small kick, then collapsed in the corner of the ring as his opponent was rebounding off the ropes. Aéreo was teaming with a wrestler named Puma De Oro, and was facing Brazo De Oro Jr and Redimio.
We will not be linking footage of the incident in this report.
He was treated by the designated doctor of the Boxing and Fighting Commission of the State of Mexico, who determined that he be immediately transferred to the Torre Médica Santa Anita clinic, where despite medical efforts, they could not revive him.
Immediately the match was stopped, and the referee, and his opponent went to check on him. His tag team partner did not know what was going on, and tried to interfere, but quickly stopped when he realized what happened. EMT’s were ringside with a backboard and rushed him to the back for medical attention, unfortunately he passed away.
Príncipe Aéreo worked a number of smaller promotions in Mexico over the last decade, but had three matches for AAA in 2019.
We send our condolences to his friends and family.
