Following a hiatus from the WWE, Finn Balor made a surprise return this past Wednesday, joining the NXT roster.
In the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that if Finn Balor’s current WWE contract remains the same, he will end up making less money with moving to NXT.
Balor would be missing out on revenue earned from WWE house shows, which pay talent a percentage of the gate, as opposed to NXT, where you just receive your salary. Balor would also miss out on larger payouts for events like Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble, Summerslam, and the WWE European tours. This would also decrease his merchandise sales as well, which he receives a percentage from.
It’s unknown if Finn Balor was offered a higher guarantee to move to NXT, as that would be the only way he could recoup the additional revenue earned from being a RAW or SmackDown talent.
Balor’s schedule on NXT would be a lot more relaxed, with only doing weekly television, and select live events. Transportation and lodging is also covered for the NXT roster, which is not covered for RAW or SmackDown talent.
It’s unknown if Balor signed a special deal to shift to NXT, or received a higher downside guarantee for shifting to the brand to make up for revenue losses.
