Backstage Update On Kairi Sane’s WWE Status

The situation with Kairi Sane and WWE continues to be complicated.

As first reported by Fighful Select, WWE had plans to send Sane to Japan to become an ambassador for the company. Those plans changed due to the on-going health crisis.

Dave Meltzer noted in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Kairi Sane is returning to Japan to be with her husband. As far as how that affects her status within the company remains to be seen.

“Sane, 31, is returning to Japan to be with her husband. This has been in the works for a while and the company has known about it since May if not earlier.”

Kairi Sane is expected to return to television soon, as she is listed for the RAW television tapings this weekend in Orlando, FL, for either the 7/6 or 7/13 episode of the show.

Prior to Sane being injured during a match with Nia Jax, WWE wanted to do a “career-ending injury angle” when it was time for her to leave to Japan.

“The only thing we know is the person who ended her career was not scheduled to be Jax. While there’s been no talk about it of late, there had been talk that once her contract with WWE was up that she would wrestle one more year in Japan and then retire.”

Plans had Asuka facing the person who “injured” Sane at SummerSlam this August. This plan likely changed when Paul Heyman left, and was rumored to be either Charlotte Flair or Shayna Baszler.

Once further details are known, an update will be reported.
