NXT will reportedly be adding a greater focus to their Cruiserweight Division.
Kushida recently took the NXT Cruiserweight Championship from Santos Escobar, in what could be part of a larger plan for NXT’s Cruiserweight Division, as per Fightful Select.
Fightful Select (subscription required) reports that the working plan is for NXT to add a larger focus on their Cruiserweight Division heading into the Summer, with the Championship being involved with some bigger names in NXT, resulting in more storylines. It was also noted that NXT officials have been high on Kushida since he joined the company several years ago.
The NXT Cruiserweight Championship hasn’t been defended on its previous brand of 205Live for several years now, and while the report didn’t include any details on if the brand will be receiving a similar focus to NXT, several 205Live talents have made their ways onto NXT programming in recent weeks.
Over the past year, there have been numerous rumors claiming that 205 Live, which currently resides on Peacock and the WWE Network, could soon be axed from WWE’s programming schedule, however, with recent WWE signings making their debuts on the brand, this doesn’t look to be happening anytime soon.
Current NXT Cruiserweight Champion Kushida is set for a non-title match against Kyle O’Reilly on tonight’s edition of NXT, which could potentially be the beginning of the division’s rise on the black and gold brand.
