Matt Riddle is the latest WWE Superstar to lose a portion of the name, he will now simply be known as “Riddle”.
Dave Meltzer noted in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the story behind the change was due to WWE not wanting people searching his name and see details of the pending lawsuit against him the company.
The company made the decision to drop Matt Riddle’s first name, and now he’s just “Riddle.” The story was that they wanted to not have people google “Matt Riddle” and come up with the details of the lawsuit against him and WWE. The decision was made on 10/29 and Riddle said he was fine with it and even preferred it saying Riddle is his name and he’s been called it for most of his life

According to Fightful Select (subscription required), Vince McMahon was pleased with the recent Survivor Series qualifying match Riddle had against Sheamus. Upon arriving backstage, Sheamus, Riddle and WWE producers were all positive about the match.
The match reportedly made a big impression on McMahon, and he specifically made the call to change his name to “Riddle”. It’s pitched for him to have a “more serious character presentation”.
