The Briscoes reportedly won’t be appearing in AEW anytime soon.
A match between The Briscoes and FTR has been anticipated by fans for a long time, with the match seemingly being set up after the AEW tag team attacked The Briscoes following their title win at last December’s Ring Of Honor Final Battle.
While the match hasn’t yet been confirmed, many expect it to happen in AEW, however this doesn’t look to be happening.
According to a report from Fightful Select, The Briscoes were never planned to be signed by AEW prior to Tony Khan’s purchase of Ring Of Honor. While AEW’s interest in the tag team is unknown, it was noted that a ‘person of influence’ within WarnerMedia didn’t want the Briscoes in AEW, specifically due to Jay Briscoe’s homophobic tweets from 2013, which he apologised for shortly after posting.
Fightful noted that they hadn’t caused any more issues for Ring Of Honor since then, with an AEW talent stating that while they’re made for television, they can’t blame WarnerMedia or AEW.
Additionally, as of a month ago there were no imminent plans for FTR and The Briscoes to have a match, however this could have changed following Tony Khan’s purchase of Ring Of Honor.
Both FTR and The Briscoes have shown interest in the match, with independent wrestling promoters noting to Fightful that they would pay ‘significant money’ by indie standards for the match.
While they’re the current Ring Of Honor Tag Team Champions, it’s unclear to whether they’ll be involved with Tony Khan’s ROH.
