WWE has decided the location of the 2020 SummerSlam event, and it won’t be inside the Performance Center in Orlando, FL. Instead, WWE has opted to utilize a local arena, despite internal talks suggesting the event be held outside.
As first reported by eWrestlingNews, WWE SummerSlam will be held inside the Amway Center in Orlando, FL. The report states WWE production trucks will begin setting up this weekend. Setup is expected to run from Friday to next Tuesday or Wednesday.
Jon Alba of Spectrum Sports later tweeted WWE’s interest in the Amway Center, despite it being officially closed due to the ongoing health crisis.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider has confirmed the report, indicating WWE will be producing the event from the 20,000 seat arena, and is hoping to produce RAW and SmackDown from the venue moving forward.
Rather than having fans in attendance, WWE is looking into taking a page out of the major league sports playbook, and having virtual fans in attendance for the pay-per-view and TV shows. WWE is working towards moving live for their weekly television starting later this month.
WWE had been scouting various locations in the Northeast, including Atlantic City, NJ. The company has opted to stay within Orlando, rather to move production to another part of the country.
Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet indicates the deal between the Amway Center and WWE is close to being finalized, and WWE will be making an official announcement once a deal is signed.
WWE Title Match To Be Added To SummerSlam
Jeff Hardy is expected to get a WWE Intercontinental Championship opportunity against AJ Styles at SummerSlam. PWInsider reports this was “the direction planned for the Smackdown episode that was slated to be taped last week but was canceled.”
WWE will be taping this week’s episode of SmackDown today at the WWE Performance Center.
