Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez recently met with WWE regarding a potential deal with the company.
Dave Meltzer noted on MMAFighting.com, WWE’s is looking to build a rematch between Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar inside the squared circle.
“The key to the WWE offer would be building a showdown with Brock Lesnar, the WWE’s highest-paid wrestler, and the 2010 fight where Velasquez beat Lesnar to win the UFC championship.”
Velasquez defeated Lesnar to win the UFC Heavyweight Title in 2010 at UFC 21.
WWE sources state that Velasquez would likely undergo knee surgery before he signed any long-term deal.
Cain Velasquez has been working with AAA in Mexico, and has one match left on his deal with the promotion. His matches in AAA highlight his technical abilities, working the luchador style. WWE would position him as a serious fighter in order to build a match with Brock Lesnar.
In December 2018, Velasquez signed a four-fight contract with UFC, which has three fights remaining.
