Wrestlemania 37 Main Event Update

Plans to bring Edge back in a Wrestlemania main event spot was considered as of last month, but the direction of WWE’s biggest pay-per-view in 2021 is now up in the air.

Last month, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted Randy Orton vs. Edge in an ‘I Quit Match’ was under consideration for Wrestlemania 37. The match, which was originally booked for SummerSlam was changed to Randy Orton vs. Drew McIntyre due to Edge suffering a torn triceps during June’s Backlash pay-per-view.

In an update, Meltzer states Randy Orton becoming WWE Champion was something that was discussed. His next match is against Keith Lee at WWE Payback, but it’s likely he will face Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at Clash Of Champions on September 27.

As of right now, WWE does not have a “100 clear main event direction” for Wrestlemania 37. Historically, WWE has an idea of what Wrestlemania main event match will occur shortly after the previous year’s Wrestlemania.

So the booking is tricky. At one point WrestleMania was to be headlined by Orton vs. Edge in an I Quit match. It was not a lock that Orton would be champion, but it was something under discussion. At last word there was no longer a 100 percent clear main event direction for the show

WWE Wrestlemania 37 is set to take place on March 28, 2021 at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood outside Los Angeles, CA.
