Ric Flair has transferred rights of two trademarks he owned to WWE.
PWInsider initially reported the sale Friday, and HeelByNature.com has obtained documents confirming additional details.
According to legal documents filed on 5/18, Flair transferred the rights of “The Man” trademarks to WWE.
Flair, who recently signed a new WWE deal, initially sent correspondence on 2/21 transferring ownership of the trademarks.
According to documents obtained by HeelByNature.com, Flair sold the trademarks to WWE for an undisclosed amount.
Last August, documents obtained byHeelByNature.comrevealed an affidavit signed by Richard Morgan Fliehr stating he has been utilizing the name “The Man” as a professional and business name since at least January 1, 1976.
The trademark filing included links to Ric Flair’s website, which included “The Man” used to describe him for booking inquiries.
Flair filed two trademarks on August 26, 2019.The first trademark was filed for entertainment services, more specifically for live appearances and performances by a professional wrestler.The second trademark was a goods and services registration to sell clothing.
In September, Flair spoke with TMZ Sports stating he has been pursuing royalties for the use of the name from WWE since the beginning of 2019.Flair states WWE’s attorney’s have claimed Becky Lynch’s use of “The Man” is different that his use of the term since the 70s.
According to Flair, his attorney’s spoke with WWE legal, and were blown off by the company.
The two sides ultimately came to an agreement, and Flair transferred ownership of the trademarks,
