Gedo Did Not Step Down As Head Booker Of NJPW
Reports surfaced throughout the day concerning New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Gedo stepping down from his position as head booker of the company.
Many sources indicate the story is false, and New Japan Pro Wrestling issued a statement to Uproxx claiming it’s a “crazy rumor”.
Pro Wrestling Sheet and Voices Of Wrestling has stated that the story is not factual, and Gedo did not step down as booker for the company.
This story originated from Kakutolog, based on an article from Japanese media stating before Dominion this past Sunday Gedo stepped down as head booker of New Japan Pro Wrestling.
The article actually states that New Japan officials believe the position as booker as been weighing heavy on Gedo’s shoulders. The article also mentions that based on Tanahashi’s delayed rescue, they feel that Dominion was a test run without Gedo as booker.
Fumi, who is regarded as Japan’s Dave Meltzer, also refuted the story as being true.
The story seems like a combination of speculation, and lost translations.
Gedo has been with New Japan Pro Wrestling since 2001, and has been the head booker for the company since 2015. He was offered a contract with WWE in 2007, but did turn it down due to them wanting him to portray a stereotypical Japanese character.
