Nobody can make a name for themselves in the WWE without something special. It might be their unique appearance, maybe the way they smack-talk opponents, sometimes it’s the whole package of their persona and physique. That said, nothing grabs the attention of fans and viewers around the world quite like a perfectly executed finishing move.
Indeed, it’s the stellar nature of those finishing moves that often brought the best wrestlers their fame, many times becoming as unique as their signature on a piece of paper. Instead, their signature was being brutally written using the rival’s body as the pen, and the canvas of the ring as their paper. Although WWE is scripted, the viewer is completely in the dark about the end result, although a wrestler with an impressive signature move is likely to have favorable odds at top online sportsbook. Little can beat a great signature finishing move, earning its very own moniker and often unique to our favorite WWE superstars.
These are some of the most devastating and impressive finishing moves created over the years, all of which are great fun to just watch and enjoy, without the need to place them in any particular order of preference.
Who is your favorite finisher?
We all have our personal favorites whenever we’re glued to the latest WWE action. Likewise, there’s little to compare with the thrill of watching a great finishing move, which is undoubtedly the icing on the cake of any fantastic rumble in the ring.
Here are some of our favorite finishing moves:
Triple H – Pedigree
Although he fought under various names during a hugely successful WWE career, it was the Hunter Hearst Helmsley name that eventually led to this fearsome wrestler becoming Triple H. Billed as a man of wealth and taste, his pleased to meet you Pedigree finisher certainly left nobody guessing his name, arms forced behind their backs and faces pounding the floor.
Macho Man Randy Savage – Flying Elbow Drop
There’s a good reason why the official WWE store pays homage to Macho Man Randy Savage, with merchandise fondly remembering his trademark finishing move. “Just a good ol’ fashioned flying elbow drop” emblazoned on t-shirts, with the man himself taking flight. That colorful and crazy looking dude brings back some great memories.
The Rock – Rock Bottom
NBA stars over the years have often had a signature slam dunk, dropping an air-filled ball through a hoop. Meanwhile, in WWE, The Rock was dropping huge and heavy rivals on their backs, with his electrifying signature Rock Bottom slam. The only debate here is that sometimes, it wasn’t enough, needing an additional finisher to get the job done.
The Undertaker – Tombstone
Nobody escapes The Undertaker and when the bell tolled, even the most famous rivals knew he was coming for them. Without any shadow of doubt, his most iconic finishing move was the Tombstone, flipping opponents upside-down in his fearsome grasp, putting their lights out with a head-first piledriver. Few if anyone ever stood back up following one of those.
Becky Lynch – The Manhandle Slam
Arguably the most admired and famous female wrestler in WWE, over the last decade, Becky “The Man” Lynch has used a whole arsenal of signature moves to finish opponents. This fearsome Irish lass does have a personal favorite based around the Rock Bottom move, albeit adapted to her own unique style, with The Manhandle Slam becoming a popular conclusion to fights.
Stone Cold Steve Austin – Stone Cold Stunner
During his most dominant era, Stone Cold Steve Austin was one of the most popular WWE stars around. He was the most iconic figure of the Attitude Era and to huge roars from the crowd, the Stone Cold Stunner was his trademark finisher. Following a swift and surprising kick to the midriff, he’d grab a rival’s head, then slam it into his shoulder for the game over.
Shawn Michaels – Sweet Chin Music
Few can argue that Shawn Michaels made a name for himself with this signature finishing move. Every time fans tuned in for one of his fights, while they knew it was going to happen, rivals never saw it coming. Distraction was the key, before all of a sudden, that kick to the face played the unmistakable sound of Sweet Chin Music. Smack! Down you go.
Bret Hart – The Sharpshooter
Similar moves have been used in both amateur and professional wrestling. Sting switched opponents with the Scorpion Deathlock, while Dean Malenko twisted them with the Texas Cloverleaf. That said, nobody perfected the art quite like Bret “Hitman” Hart with The Sharpshooter. Legs grabbed, spun around face down, tapping out was the rival’s only option.
The Ultimate Warrior – The Gorilla Press
Nothing demonstrates the sheer power and brute force of a wrestler like The Gorilla Press. While these guys often build their muscles bench-pressing weights, hoisting a massive and sometimes wriggling rival in the air takes immense skill and power. Nobody showcased this move better than The Ultimate Warrior, who made The Gorilla Press his trademark finisher, making him truly immortal in the hearts and minds of any WWE fan.
Roman Reigns & Bill Goldberg – The Spear
While there might not be anything new or particularly original about The Spear, it remains one of the most devastating and powerful finishers in the WWE. Icons like Edge and Rhyno have put the move to great use, while Roman Reigns has become supreme in its execution. However, nobody can match legendary Bill Goldberg, a former American football player who perfected The Spear, taking his tough tackling expertise from the field to the ring.
That wraps up our top picks for finishers. Don’t’ forget to let us know the finishing moves you admire the most, and which WWE stars of past and present have executed them with the most style.
