Thea Trinidad, formerly known as Zelina Vega in WWE, was fired from the company last November after breaking WWE’s third-party business guidelines. Trinidad’s 90-day non-compete clause expired earlier this month, meaning the star is free to sign with another company.
During an appearance on the Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW President Tony Khan was asked whether AEW has any interest in Vega.
Khan mentioned he doesn’t talk to talent that are bound by non-compete clauses, but is interested to know her status after AEW gets through the Women’s Eliminator Tournament and AEW Revolution.
“I haven’t, isn’t she on a 90-day non-compete? I think she was on a non-compete last time I checked, so I’ve been waiting for that. I don’t talk to people when they have a non-compete. If it expired, it must have just expired. I don’t know the exact details on that, but I’ve been waiting on the non-compete to expire to even think about it, then we got in the Women’s Eliminator, so I have to check the math and see if she’s expired, but I’m not sure. We’ve been pretty busy with this tournament, when we get through this tournament and through this pay-per-view…I’d be interested to see where she’s at”
Zelina Vega was released from WWE on November 13, 2020. Her 90-day non-compete clause expired on February 13, 2021.
The clauses allow the wrestlers to continue to get paid their downside guarantee with WWE, but does not allow them to compete for another promotion. Talent are allowed to take independent bookings for meet and greets if approved by WWE management, but cannot perform for the promotion.
