The WWE universe has been buzzing with questions about Drew McIntyre’s whereabouts since his last bout with Sheamus and Gunther at WrestleMania 39 where Gunther managed to defend his WWE Intercontinental Championship.
But, it’s now been revealed that McIntyre has been out of action due to an injury. Not only that, but his contract with WWE is also up this year, and rumors are swirling that he’s not too happy with his position in the company and there’s a significant gap in negotiations regarding his compensation.
To add fuel to the fire, McIntyre recently blacked out his Twitter account and removed all references to WWE from his bio, leaving fans speculating about his future with the company.
In a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that McIntyre won’t be returning to action anytime soon. “He’s not gonna be back at TV next week. He’s not gonna be back for a couple more weeks. They announced the Madison Square Garden show, which is in July, and he was not announced for that show either. I was just told it’s a couple more weeks, and we’ll see what happens from there.”
Meltzer also shed some light on McIntyre’s contractual situation, stating that “although the contract issue, you know, again, his contract doesn’t come due for many months. But as far as signing a new deal, there’s nothing new. It’s still…they’re still far apart.”
The WWE universe will have to wait a little longer to see the Scottish superstar back in the ring, and it remains to be seen what the future holds for McIntyre and WWE.
