WWE talent royalties for video games took a sharp turn following bankruptcy of THQ.
At one point talent made upwards of $100,000 in royalties. Once Take-Two assumed control of the video game license, talent royalties deceased, with some stars only making 10,000 – $15,000.
WWE 2K Battlegrounds was released last month, which isn’t expected to sell as much as prior 2K series games, and there is confusion when it comes to royalties for some wrestlers.
According to Fightful Select (subscription required), one unnamed WWE talent received a large payday bonus from the game. The wrestler revealed that they would be receiving a $35,000 bonus for appearing in WWE 2k Battleground.
Others were told they would be included in DLC’s, but wouldn’t be given a royalty bonus due to not having main roster contracts.
Fightful recently provided an update on contracts, indicating several NXT call-ups were finally spoken to about new main roster deals.
The money a lot of talent were offered to re-sign last year was more than what is being offered now. WWE has told those involved that they would open to re-negotiate around Wrestlemania 37.
