WWE has removed another controversial segment from its platform.
As first revealed by PWInsider, a segment from the 7/6/98 edition of Monday Night RAW has been removed as been removed from the WWE Network. The segment features members of D-Generation X mocking The Nation of Domination.
That episode has yet to be migrated to Peacock, but another episode, which once featured clips from that segment in a promo package has been removed from both platforms.
X-Pac spoke with Uproxx in 2017 spoke about the segment, revealing he regretted using wearing blackface and playing off racist stereotypes. He also spoke about how he was unhappy doing it at the time.
“Actually, the only thing that I can honestly say I really regret now is the blackface thing. I did not understand. Here’s the thing: I consider myself pretty well, for somebody that didn’t go to high school, pretty well educated. I know a lot of things, but I never saw an actual minstrel show, blackface thing. Recently, I saw something about it and I was horrified, horrified at how mean-spirited all that stuff was. I look at it way different now.”
“If you watch Table for 3 with Godfather, Mark Henry, and Ron Simmons, Mark even says, “Oh, you know, X-Pac even came back, didn’t want to do it because he was afraid of backlash and all that.” I did. I was not happy about doing that. Everyone will tell you that.”
WWE and NBC Universal have both issued statements regarding controversial content on their platforms being removed to align with 2021 standards.
