Rey Mysterio And WWE Continue Contract Talks

Following Rey Mysterio’s loss at WWE Extreme Rules, he has yet to sign a new deal with the company, and remains without a contract.

On July 16, Rey Mysterio met with WWE officials in Stamford, CT to discuss a new deal. He then worked the pay-per-view, and was backstage the following night on RAW, not appearing on television due to his storyline eye injury.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rey Mysterio has yet to agree on new contract terms with WWE, but both sides are not far from a deal. Rey Mysterio is scheduled to once again meet with WWE to try and finalize a new contract.

Mysterio has still not signed a new WWE contract. At last word, as of a few weeks ago, he was asking for a raise and Vince McMahon was not offering one. That may have changed since the last word is that the sides are not far from a deal and McMahon and Mysterio would be meeting once again soon to try and finalize things.

During initial negotiations, Rey Mysterio requested a pay increase, which Vince McMahon refused, citing the current financial situation the company is in, making massive cuts across the business amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

WWE is set to generate record operating income this year, and remain profitable, despite the effects COVID-19 has had on business.
