WWE announced a sold out crowd last night at Chase Field in Phoenix for the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

WWE claims 48,193 were in attendance for last night’s event, despite only being setup for 43,000.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, the actual number in the building was closer to 40,000. The amount of paid attendees was closer to 32,000.

The WWE has a history of exaggerating their attendance for large events, so this isn’t anything new.

WWE announced 101,763 for Wrestlemania 32, which was actually 93,730 paid. Vince McMahon later admitted on a WWE financial call that the number announced wasn’t all paid attendees.
