Adam Cole Could Exit WWE At End Of The Week

It appears that former NXT triple-crown champion Adam Cole contact with WWE is expiring later this week.

Reports had surfaced over the last few weeks that Cole’s contract extension was set to run out after this past weekend’s Takeover 36 pay per view, where Cole lost to rival Kyle O’Reilly it what was presumably his last matchup for the NXT brand. Word was that there were plans for him to move to the main roster, with writers on both the Raw and SmackDown brands coming up with storylines for him.

Cole’s original deal with the company expired last month, he agreed to continue to work under a short-term agreement, which will expire later this week.

Fightful Select is reporting that Cole’s short term extension is expiring on Friday August 27th, which would make it impossible for him to appear for this week’s AEW Dynamite or AEW Rampage. It is also noted that WWE does plan to make him another offer in that time.

Since signing with the company in 2017 Cole headed the popular Undisputed Era faction in NXT, where he captured the NXT championship, NXT North American championship, and was apart of the trios run as NXT tag champions. Since news of his free agency went public the Young Bucks and AEW world champion Kenny Omega have teased bringing Cole to AEW, even sharing photos of his old bits in their Youtube series Being The Elite.

We’ll keep you updated on Cole’s status.
