WWE superstar Daniel Bryan continues to use his pull backstage to help the blue-brand improve.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter the former WWE champion has been pushing for management to call-up talent from NXT to appear on SmackDown as a way to “freshen up” the main roster. Bryan has previously been able to put spotlights on often underutilized wrestlers such as Drew Gulak, whom he worked a lengthy program with prior to the COVID-19 outbreak taking away fans. He was also the brains behind lucha-libre star Gran Metalik getting an Intercontinental championship opportunity against AJ Styles back in July.
There were previous reports that WWE was interested in a Damian Priest call-up, but that seems to have been pulled at the last moment. The Observer does note that the NXT call-ups don’t always have the best success on the main roster, specifically due to Chairman Vince McMahon losing interest in talent after a certain period of time.
As for Bryan…he’s said in previous interviews that he is beginning to see his days in the ring coming to an end, and hopes to shine a light on future wrestlers who can carry the industry into its next surge.
