Paige says she was not the original opponent for Kelani Jordan, and that her return to NXT came together at the last minute.

Paige made her surprise return to NXT on the November 4 episode, challenging Jordan for the NXT Women’s Championship as the mystery opponent. It was her first NXT match since 2014. Jordan kept the title.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Paige said Triple H pulled her aside during the double taping in Brooklyn and asked her to go down to NXT.

“I got called last minute. It wasn’t actually supposed to be me. Triple H pulled me aside in Brooklyn at the double taping and said, ‘Do you mind going down to NXT?’ I was like, ‘Oh shit. Yeah, definitely.’ It didn’t give me much time to prepare. Maybe if I prepared a little bit more, I would’ve won. It is what it is. I know what to do next time if I get a little bit of time,” she said.

Paige was the first ever NXT Women’s Champion, winning the title in 2013. Her return to the brand was one of the biggest surprises of the November 4 show, which also saw Grayson Waller keep the NXT Championship over CM Punk after Kevin Owens interfered.

Jordan retained the title in the match, and Paige made it clear she would be ready if she gets another shot with more time to prepare.

What is confirmed is Paige’s account of the last minute call, the Brooklyn conversation with Triple H, and that Jordan retained the title. What is not confirmed is who the original opponent was supposed to be, or when Paige wrestles next.
