An update has been provided on NXT’s creative team.

NXT recently went through some further cuts to it’s backstage team, with William Regal, Scott Armstrong and Road Dogg among names let go by the company.

As well as this, NXT has seen some major changes to it’s format and presentation since being rebranded, with a larger focus on young upcoming talents and the axing of the ‘NXT TakeOver’ name. Carmelo Hayes, Bron Breakker and Cora Jade are some of the top breakout stars in NXT since it entered it’s ‘2.0’ era.

Backstage names in NXT weren’t the only employees released by WWE recently, with the likes of Samoa Joe, Timothy Thatcher, Hideki Suzuki and Danny Burch also let go by WWE. However it should be noted that all four of these also had backstage roles at the time of their releases.

Prior to the rebrand, NXT operated independently from the rest of WWE, and was overseen by Triple H. However this is no longer the case according to PWInsider.

The NXT creative team will now report directly to Bruce Prichard and Christine Lubrano, similar to that of the creative teams for Raw and SmackDown.

Johnny Russo will head the NXT writing team moving forward. Russo joined WWE in 2011, where he worked on Raw and SmackDown before moving to NXT in 2019, where he became lead writer less than a year later.

Dewey Foley and Anthony Golden Jr. will also remain on NXT’s creative. Foley, who is the son of Mick Foley, has been working with 205 Live for a while. Golden Jr. on the other hand has been working with WWE since March 2021.

Tonight’s NXT will see Raw Superstar AJ Styles take on Grayson Waller following the pair’s feud over the past few weeks. This is part of the new direction WWE has decided to take, as despite NXT hosting various main roster superstars for short-term and long-term runs during the black and gold era, this has become more frequent as of late with Riddle and Styles appearing on NXT over the past couple of weeks.
