Report: Recent WWE Releases All Bound To No-Compete Clauses

Relased WWE Stars Bound To 90-Day No Compete Clause

Following yesterday’s release of five WWE Superstars, additional details pertaining to their exit agreements have been revealed.

Sin Cara, Luke Harper, and The Ascension are all bound to a 90-day no compete clause according to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. These clauses will expire on 3/8/20.

The clauses allow the wrestlers to continue to get paid their downside guarantee with WWE, but does not allow them to compete for another promotion.

Talent are allowed to take independent bookings for meet and greets, but cannot perform for the promotion.

Alberto El Patron (Del Rio) sued WWE after his firing in 2014. He was slapped with a 90-day no compete clause, which Patron claimed prevented him from making a living. That clause was dropped in Patron’s favor.

Prior to be released, reports indicated that Sin Cara was interested in working for MMA promotion Combate Americas. He was present for their debut PPV this past weekend in support of Alberto El Patron.

WWE owns the trademarks for Sin Cara, Luke Harper, and Konnor and Viktor of The Ascension. Luke Harper has filed a trademark for his former independent name Brodie Lee,
