Last weekend at Survivor Series, WWE held an angle involving Vince McMahon and a golden egg.

During Survivor Series, Vince McMahon was seen exiting a limousine with a golden egg, which he claimed was worth $100 million and was gifted to him by The Rock, who’s 25th anniversary was celebrated at the event.

This was all part of a partnership between WWE and Red Notice, a movie The Rock features in. The egg was supposed to be one of ‘Cleopatra’s eggs’, a treasure which features heavily in the movie.

Later in the show, it was revealed that McMahon’s egg has been stolen. McMahon then sent Sonya Deville and Adam Pearce to track down the thief.

It was then revealed on Raw that the egg was stolen by Raw newcomer Austin Theory. McMahon gifted Theory a WWE Championship match in the main event due to his courage, much to the dismay of Sami Zayn, who helped find the culprit. Theory went on to lose the match to current WWE Champion Big E.

However this wasn’t the original plan for the golden egg storyline, as reported by Fightful Select (subscription required)

Per Fightful, the original idea for the angle was ‘much worse with stakes much lower’, with the 24/7 Title being discussed as having some part in the storyline.

It was noted that teams associated with The Rock and/or Red Notice weren’t pleased with the plans, and that Vince McMahon appearance in the angle was done to add more importance.

Furthermore, the deal, which saw the intro to Survivor Series themed heavily around the movie, is said to be have worth seven-figures.
