Following the release of multiple NXT UK wrestlers, coupled with the current pandemic situation, the future of NXT’s United Kingdom brand has been in question.
According to both Gary Cassidy of SportsKeeda and Alex McCarthy of talkSport, there is no plans to close NXT UK operations, despite rumored reports indicating WWE may have given up on the brand.
Alex McCarthy took to Twitter, stating “I’m also told WWE are not looking at cancelling NXT UK in the short term/near future. Pretty emphatically, too.”
Gary Cassidy added, “A couple of weeks ago, I was told there’s a tentative plan to tape empty arena shows within roughly two months,”
Obviously the tapings situation relies heavily on Government guidance, which is the major reason why NXT UK tapings ground to a halt while RAW, SmackDown and NXT in the US didn’t. Things could change. As far as I know, they haven’t yet.
During the lockdown, NXT UK stars have been participating in online acting seminars, as well as “Skull Sessions”, utilizing video calling to analyze matches with NXT UK’s training staff, including NXT General Manager William Regal.
NXT UK has not filmed any new content since March, WWE Network has been airing “Best Of” compliations during NXT UK episodes
WWE still has plans to host NXT UK Takeover: Dublin on Sunday, October 26.
