The Demon is back, and Gunther found that out the hard way on SmackDown.
Danhausen had promised to reveal his most evil experiment on the Halloween edition of SmackDown on October 30. He came out to show it off, but Gunther interrupted him. A group of Minihausens tried to overwhelm Gunther, but he fought past them.
The lights then turned red, and Finn Balor made his entrance as The Demon. Balor was Danhausen’s evil experiment all along. Balor and Gunther brawled, and it ended with Balor hitting a Coup de Grace from the top of a ladder through the announce table. Balor and a visibly hurt Danhausen then did Danhausen’s signature pose to close the segment.
The Demon had not been seen on WWE programming since WrestleMania 42, where Balor wrestled Dominik Mysterio in a Street Fight. His return on SmackDown puts him back in the middle of Gunther’s issues with Danhausen, which have been building in recent weeks. Gunther had said in a WWE digital exclusive that he would be at the Halloween show, continuing those issues.
Danhausen hosted the full show as part of his Very Nice, Very Evil SmackDown, which also saw three championships defended. The Demon return was the show’s biggest surprise, and it came in the closing stages of the night.
Balor’s return raises an obvious question about what comes next. Gunther is one of WWE’s top stars, and a Demon attack through a table is not the kind of thing that gets left alone. WWE has not announced a match between the two yet.
What is confirmed is the return, the attack on Gunther, and the announce table spot. What is not confirmed is whether Balor and Gunther will have a match, or whether The Demon sticks around beyond the Halloween show.
