Earlier today, WWE announced SmackDown star Bayley would be out of action for up to nine months after suffering an injury while training.
In an update, Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports the injury occurred during a training session earlier this week. The word making its rounds backstage is that she suffered a torn ACL.
Fightful Select (subscription required) has some additional information, revealing the injury happened while she was chain wrestling with another WWE star during mandatory training required by all talent before returning to the road. The injury was described as a “freak accident”.
As of this writing, no concrete details are known on who will replace her at the upcoming Money In The Bank pay-per-view. WWE is advertising a replacement be named tonight during SmackDown.
Two wrestlers who spoke with Fightful were “openly frustrated that the company’s lack of depth left them scrambling to find an appropriate replacement”.
We're told the Bayley injury happened during the mandatory "return to road" training session at the WWE Performance Center while doing chain wrestling with another Superstar. It was referred to as a freak accident.
