NXT UK Talent Reportedly Sign Exclusive Deals With Higher Pay
WWE recently held their NXT UK TV tapings in Liverpool, and with that new contracts were given to several members of the roster. According to WrestleTalk, higher salary contracts were given, but with exclusive clauses. In speaking with one UK promotion I can confirm that they were told by at least one NXT UK wrestler that they could no longer perform for them.
In the past NXT UK talent were able to work for various independent promotions as long as it was approved by the office. Wrestlers like Pete Dunne would be able to take bookings and travel with his UK title to various promotions worldwide, as long as it didn’t interfere with WWE bookings. When Pete Dunne was injured at an independent event, the WWE made a new agreement stating they couldn’t work outside promotions within a 7-day period of an WWE promoted event.
Pro Wrestling Chaos released a statement today in regards to the news stating that El Ligero, Flash Morgan Webster , and James Drake will no longer be able to compete at their events due to contractual agreements with the WWE.
First and foremost we would like to congratulate Morgan Webster, El Ligero and James Drake and take this opportunity to sincerely thank all 3 men for their work in and out of the ring, they have helped make Chaos what it is today.
We have always believed in being truthful and honest with our fans.
This morning we learned that they will no longer be able to perform at Pro Wrestling Chaos events.
This is due to contractual obligations that are outside both our and their control.
I’m sure you’ll all join us in wishing them all the best for their future
This change will not affect promotions with affiliations with WWE including PROGRESS and ICW. The WWE plans on going full steam with their NXT UK division, and with the announcement of the first NXT UK Takeover event, they are looking to make sure talent on the division stay exclusive.
