A sudden departure from WWE happened Friday, not related to the recent cutbacks in the company.
As first reported by Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer, SmackDown lead writer Chris DeJoseph was released from the company Friday.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider added, the departure was sudden, and DeJoseph was at WWE tapings earlier this week.
Chris DeJoseph received a promotion over the last week, and was working in as a lead writer and producer for the SmackDown brand. Specific details behind his release and promotion have yet to be revealed.
He returned to WWE in December 2019, after working one month for Major League Wrestling as a Co-Executive Producer.
His previously worked for WWE from 2004 through 2010, landing a role as a Senior Writer in the company. Fans may remember his on-screen role as Big Dick Johnson.
After leaving WWE in 2010, DeJoesph served as Co-Executive Producer for Lucha Underground, and was a driving force behind the company.
He also worked on various reality television shows such as CBS’ Big Brother, FOX’s Hotel Paradise, American Grit, and Marriage Bootcamp: Reality Stars.
