WWE has transferred the ownership of trademarks to two former roster members, Mia Yim and Matt Hardy.
HeelByNature can confirm the transferal of trademarks between WWE and two former Superstars.
WWE has made an agreement with Matt Hardy to transfer the ownership of his ring name, following his exit from the company in 2020. WWE had previously owned the trademark since 2018, before they recently handed it back over to Hardy on March 7th, 2022.
The rights to the name was transferred via Hardy’s trademark attorney Michael E. Dockins.
Hardy has been signed to AEW since early 2020, recently reuniting with his brother Jeff for the first time in several years following his exit from WWE late last year.
WWE has also made an agreement with Stephanie Bell, better known to fans as Mia Yim. WWE had owned the trademark since August 2019.
Yim signed with WWE in September 2018, and spent the majority of her time with the company in NXT. She was then called up as a member of Retribution in 2020, adopting the name ‘Reckoning’. Yim was then among one the WWE’s mass releases in November 2021, among the likes of Karrion Kross, Scarlett Bordeaux, and her husband Keith Lee.
As previously noted, Mia Yim attempted to secure her in-ring name in 2020, while WWE still owned the trademark.
WWE transferred Yim’s trademark to her on February 18th, 2022, several weeks after her non-compete clause expired. Yim has yet to return to the ring.
WWE has previously done this with the likes of Jim Ross, Mickie James, Rey Mysterio, CM Punk, Ric Flair, Lio Rush and Karl Anderson. The company also signed over trademarks to Chris Jericho following his exit in 2018.
