AEW could be set to introduce Trios Championships very soon.

Ever since AEW’s inception in 2019, fans have called for the promotion to bring in Trios Championships. While they haven’t yet debuted, rumblings of them being introduced have been going on for around a year, with AEW CEO Tony Khan expressing his interest in the idea during the pre-Revolution media call back in March.

“We have a lot of great trios here,” Khan said. “I am very interested in it. I will be 100% honest with you, this is the most blunt answer I could give, I am much more receptive to doing it when Kenny Omega is back.”

Kenny Omega was hoping to be back in AEW by February, however this obviously didn’t happen and he’s still yet to return. However AEW teased his return at Revolution in March, when Don Callis came out to Kenny Omega’s entrance music.

AEW currently has six championships, the AEW World Championship, AEW Women’s World Championship, AEW World Tag Team Championships, AEW TNT Championship and AEW TBS Championship. The FTW Championship – which is currently being held by Ricky Starks – also appears on AEW television regularly, but isn’t officially recognised as a championship.

It now seems like AEW are preparing to debut the belts in the near future, as Dave Meltzer noted on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the belts have been made and that it’s just a matter of when they pull the trigger.

AEW currently has numerous credible groups that have the potential of becoming inaugural Trios Champions, including the likes of House of Black, Blackpool Combat Club, Death Triangle and Adam Cole & Redragon among others.
