Based on comments from Triple H, it seems that 205 Live talent will be moving under the NXT umbrella.
HeelByNature.com learned last month via a WWE source that talks were in place to end 205 Live once SmackDown moved to FOX. The source indicated that the news would get out in September, presumably when the decision is finalized.
Triple H’s comments do not explicitly say 205 Live is ending, but will move talent under the NXT brand.
This change will allow talent currently on 205 Live to compete on NXT, and have the Cruiserweight Championship be defended under the NXT banner.
Triple H spoke with Newsweek and stated the company will begin to see talent from 205 move to NXT. He feels having the Cruiserweight title under the NXT banner will be more meaningful.
“You’ll start to see 205 begin to. I think it always existed as an island onto itself, a little bit, and it’s become lost in this limbo. You’ll begin to see it move more towards the NXT banner and the talent there. We have a lot of talent. For them to begin to compete either open against anyone or in the cruiserweight division, but have that title sit under the NXT brand is more meaningful. It creates more opportunities for more people.
As for RAW and SmackDown, it’s an open division for them. When you’re on both shows, everybody is competing against everybody.”
