Heated Confrontation Backstage At Friday Night SmackDown
Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair were involved in a real-life altercation following Friday’s edition of SmackDown in Wichita, KS.
According to PWInsider, multiple sources have confirmed the incident after the episode went off air. Issues between the two arose after Flair voiced concerns regarding the Championship exchange segment that closed the show. Flair reportedly “didn’t want to look weak nor did she want her title reign to look weak during the segment”.
During the segment, Flair was supposed to hand her RAW title to Becky Lynch, but instead pulled it away and threw it on the ground. This was not part of the plans for the segment. Lynch then threw her belt at Flair, which was also not part of the plans.
After the show went off-air, there was a confrontation between Lynch and Flair where Lynch believed Flair was “trying to make her look bad.” The situation was heated, but did not turn physical.
Fightful Select (subscription required) provided more details on the incident.
The original script for the segment had Lynch grab the title from Flair, then “brag about being ‘Becky Two Belts’ before Sonya Deville would order her to hand her title to Charlotte.” Flair reportedly didn’t agree with this.
During the backstage altercation, Flair reportedly said her dropping the title was an accident. She was told to leave to venue prior to the conclusion of Lynch’s dark match to “avoid further confrontation and let things cool off.”
Following the broadcast, Flair’s partner AEW star Andrade El Idiolo took to social media, tweeting “Fu… WWE !!!!!”.
