When WWE returned to live touring last July, they brought several familiar faces back to the company. One of the names was Davey Boy Smith Jr, the son of The British Bulldog.
Smith competed in a dark match prior to the first SmackDown back with live fans on July 16, tagging with Austin Theory to defeat Odyssey Jones and Xyon Quinn.
While WWE posted a video of him backstage after his match, Smith didn’t return to television and was later released by the company on November 4 last year.
Smith came to several tapings following his return match, however ultimately never returned to television. Smith has now commented on his few months with WWE, and how he was set to receive a new name prior to his exit, during an interview with Inside The Ropes.
“Then I was kind of forgotten about, I came to TV one or two times… I was waiting to come back and then they called and Johnny [ Laurinaitis] said he wasn’t a fan of it [his release], he wasn’t happy with the list of names he was given but it wasn’t from him.
“I don’t know what they were waiting for, the only thing I was told was, I was going to be debuting on SmackDown and they were going to call me ‘The Stampede Stud’.
“It just never happened, it wasn’t my fault. I showed up more than in shape. I saw Vince and he was like “oh you’re looking good kid.”
Since his WWE release, Smith has competed in the NWA, and will challenge for the NWA Tag Team Championships with Doug Williams at this Saturday’s Alwayz Ready show.
