Today Andy Shepherd hosted the first virtual roundtable on WWE’s YouTube and it was focused on WWE’s Scottish champions. Guests included WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, one half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nikki Cross, NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray and NXT UK Tag Team Champions Mark Coffey & Wolfgang.
Drew was asked first about his thoughts on winning the WWE Championship and how it felt when it sank in:
“Not till after the match I realized just how many Scottish champions we really have. Obviously the night before Nikki had won the [women’s] tag team championships, and I was aware Wolfgang & Mark had the tag titles and Kay Lee had the women’s title in NXT UK, but I was so focused on the match with Brock that it wasn’t until the next day when somebody had created a graphic with all the Scottish champions that I couldn’t believe I was WWE Champion for one but to think back, you know, there were no Scottish wrestlers, it just wasn’t a thing. Like you say out of 5 million people and there are 5 champions, one in a million, that is quite a cool fact to find out the day after WrestleMania.”
Nikki Cross was then asked about when she realized the amount of Scottish champions in WWE:
“For me it was very similar to Drew, you’re so focused on the match and WrestleMania that I think it was when we saw the graphic after Drew won his championship from Brock, and you see the 5 of us I was like, we are like a popband!”
Wolfgang was asked about the history between the five champions and if they knew each other before joining WWE:
“Yeah, I think personally I take it upon myself to be the historian when it comes to the Scottish scene, If I don’t remember it, someones got to remember it. I saw it coming, I said to Mark at some point, if you and I can hold onto these titles, and Kay Lee holds on to hers, there’s a strong chance you’re gonna get 5 Scottish champions at one time. You try to keep it quiet, without giving it away. If you say something you might jinx it, keep it hush.”
Drew spoke about his accent and how it has changed since coming to America:
“I used to get a lot of cr*p from Nikki when I first came to America because I used a lot of American words that nobody could understand what I was saying. I said just give it time, you’ll be in the same boat soon, and it was a week later.”
