16-Time World Champion John Cena Says He Won’t Be Returning For WrestleMania 37.
Last week, reports emerged stating that John Cena was almost locked in to appear at WrestleMania 37, however the 16-time World Champion has revealed that he won’t be able to attend this year’s spectacular.
Cena was interviewed by Sports Illustrated where he discussed his upcoming roles in movies and commercials. During the interview Cena explained how he won’t be able to attend WrestleMania 37 due to COVID-19 quarantine rules.
“Currently, I’m in Vancouver shooting Peacemaker, the series for HBO Max,” Cena says. “Given the quarantine regulations, if I were to leave Canada, upon return I would have to quarantine for another two weeks. Essentially, that would shut production down. Strictly based on the letter of the law right now, there is no logistical way I can be there. We film now until July.”
Cena went on to joke about how he has now joined the group of part timers that only appear for WWE’s biggest shows.
“What a hypocritical situation,” Cena says with a laugh. “I used to be very open about the fact that part-timers were just that, and here I am at 44 years old and I’ve become what I despise, as they say. That is kind of what it is.”
Cena acknowledged the fans disappointment in him not appearing at this year’s WrestleMania, stating how there is ‘no mathematical way’ he can be at the show.
“It’s very difficult to say because I know it’s going to be disappointing for a lot of people, but according to the letter of regulation right now, there is no mathematical way I can be at WrestleMania this year.”
John Cena has appeared at every WrestleMania since 2003. This isn’t the only record Cena will have broken recently, as 2020 was the first year since 2004 that The Champ didn’t appear on a single episode of Raw. Cena’s last appearance was at WrestleMania 36 where he lost to The Fiend in the Firefly Funhouse Match.
