NXT Creative Process Focusing On Long-Term Booking
A common trope for WWE’s flagship Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown programs is that the shows tend to get rewritten at the last minute by creative, or even at times by company chairman Vince McMahon. However, WWE’s third brand, NXT, seems be not have that issue.
According to the Wrestling Observer, NXT is being written with long-term booking in mind, with the report mentioning how there almost never any last minute changes made to the shows aside from talent being pulled/rearranged due to COVID-19 precautions.
Prior to the yellow-and-black brand going live on USA, this remained one of NXT’s biggest pros when working taped television, as they were able to structure more long-term booking leading up to their bi-monthly Takeover specials.
Next week’s NXT New Year’s Evil special will feature a Takeover-esque card, which includes Finn Balor defending the NXT championship against Kyle O’Reilly, Raquel Gonzalez battling Rhea Ripley in a Last Woman Standing match, and the return of the Fight Pit.
